Missiological Snapshot: From Your Vantage Point and Mine
You might recall that we looked at the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18–20 and discovered that Jesus has been granted authority over the heavens and the earth, and just before he ascended into heaven (imagine what that must have been like to see!), he said to his disciples and to us…
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8).
We are God’s witnesses whoever we are and wherever we go and the act of bearing witness to God’s love, grace, and forgiveness demonstrated by the Lord Jesus is integral to our core identity.
This particular snapshot is designed to provoke our attention, to help us adjust our posture as we engage in meaningful gospel conversations with our friends, family, co-workers, neighbors in relevant ways.
Remember, we are not changing the gospel message, but we are cultivating a cultural attentiveness. We are listening for prominent cultural narratives that enable us to better relate to and engage with people today. Here are a few of common questions and cultural narratives…
▪ Why are we here? Who Am I? Is there A God?
▪ It doesn’t matter what you believe
▪ We’re here by accident
▪ Love is just a passing feeling
▪ We can be whoever we want to be
▪ To find God, you have to be religious
As you listen to the video, keep these questions and statements in mind—in fact, maybe you have similar questions or struggle with belief too. My hope is that this snapshot encourages you personally in your walk with God and as you engage in your context with someone who might be asking similar questions, but have yet to know Jesus.
What an honor and privilege it is to share the Good News of Jesus!
